Carers Trust South East Wales Chief Executive Officer Gareth Howells has been appointed as the new CEO for Carers Trust – the national charity for unpaid carers.

Gareth will take up his new post in December 2019 after stepping down as CEO for Carers Trust South East Wales, a post he has held since July 2015. Carers Trust South East Wales will be advertising for a new Chief Executive Officer imminently.

Gareth leaves Carers Trust South East Wales in a very strong position, having overseen the transformation of the charity to ensure the voices of unpaid carers are central to every area of its work. Gareth has worked to build a dynamic, sustainable and innovative organisation that is now the largest charity for unpaid carers in Wales.

Gareth Howells said: “I’m excited to be joining Carers Trust as their new CEO in December to help raise the voice of unpaid carers across the UK. After just over four years at Carers Trust South East Wales, I leave behind a talented team who really make a difference to the lives of unpaid carers every day, and I look forward to continuing to work with them in my new role.”

Carers Trust South East Wales Chair of Trustees, Steve Harford, said: “Whilst everyone at Carers Trust South East Wales is sad to see Gareth leave, we are all extremely proud of the brilliant work he has done for the charity. Gareth’s work with Carers Trust South East Wales has paved the way for him to lead Carers Trust at a crucial time and we are looking forward to working with Gareth in his new role at Carers Trust to continue to strengthen our partnership.”
