Innovative new hub for carers launches in Penarth A new hub that will help unpaid carers in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan has launched this week. The Vale Carers Hub offers a one-stop shop for unpaid carers to get information, advice and practical support relating to their care role. A wide-range of specialist support services for carers will run weekly – from free legal and benefits advice to social groups. The hub provides a safe, comfortable space for carers to take a break from their caring role and also offers links to local organisations and groups. A long-running free counselling service for carers is also available from the hub. The hub is designed to offer a ‘hub and spoke’ style service, meaning that while the hub acts as a focal point, a series of local ‘spokes’ give carers the chance to meet staff and get advice in popular community settings across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. These could be anything from community centres to GP surgeries. The Vale Carers Hub is part of Carers Trust South East Wales – the leading provider of services for unpaid carers and people with care needs in Wales. Gareth Howells, Carers Trust South East Wales Chief Executive, said: “We are really excited to be able to launch this vital new service for carers across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We have undertaken extensive consultation with carers over the last two years about the type of support that matters to them, and we are pleased that we are now able to put this into action and ensure carers can access the support they need. Three in every five people will become a carer at some point during their lives, and we hope this new service will help and support carers when they most need it.” Emma Ware, a local carer and friend of Carers Trust South East Wales, officially launched the Vale Carers Hub. Emma said: “Identifying carers in the first place and then supporting them in the right way is a big challenge. Thankfully I know first-hand how dedicated Carers Trust South East Wales are when it comes to helping unpaid carers. I’m really impressed by the Vale Carers Hub, the facilities available there for carers, and hearing the plans and vision for the hub is inspiring. The turnout for the launch event was wonderful to see.” Call 02921 921024 or email valecarersh[email protected] to find out more about our new Vale Carers Hub, or visit us at: The Vale Carers Hub, West House, Stanwell Rd, Penarth, CF64 2YG.
