Our very own Sian Salked, who works as a Carers Development Worker in the Cardiff and Vale region, completed the annual spring-time Cardiff Bay 10k race in no less than one hour and twelve minutes.

Her inspiration behind running the race stemmed from conversations that she held with carers, who explained that the counselling support they received from Carers Trust South East Wales had saved their lives.

Sian said: “Counselling is a vital service for our carers and the more carers we can offer that support to, the better! I’ve also benefitted from counselling myself in the past and running helps me with my own mental health, so running a 10k to raise funds for counselling was a win-win all round.”

Sian trained for twelve weeks in preparation for the run and went on to knock seven minutes off the time that she managed to obtain during her training.

Her Local Giving page has smashed its £300 goal, which she feels extremely satisfied about.

“To know that I will be helping a carer in need get the help that could make a world of difference to them. It will also help all the training and aching joints feel worthwhile!”

Sian hopes to inspire others into joining the 5000+ runners who help raise awareness by participating in the race each year: “Do it! Set yourself a challenge and do it for a good cause to give you the motivation to achieve your goal. You’ll get so much out of it yourself.”
