From 1st April 2021 one part of the service we currently provide to young carers living in Monmouthshire will move over to be managed directly by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC).

MCC have funded us to deliver this service for 19 years but now want to use the money to increase their internally provided support.

The main areas of work that will be moving to MCC’s Children’s Services and Family Support Team will be short breaks and providing advice to young carers. Young Carers Support Officer Arif Hussain and Community Projects Assistant Kelly Andrews will sadly be leaving CTSEW to join MCC to support the service at the end of the month.

The young carers service has been working with young carers in Monmouthshire for 19 years and has supported many hundreds of young people during this time. The service has consistently had incredible feedback and made a lasting impact to many young people’s lives.

Although we are obviously very disappointed about this decision, our focus now will be on how we can reach and support more young carers across the areas we work.

Our Young Carers in Schools programme will remain unaffected by these changes.

Young Carers Manager, Lisa Thomas, said: “We have had so many amazing moments over the years, from seeing young carers do something for the first time to achieving their goals, and growing in confidence to become incredible adults.

“Working with young carers means working closely with their families. We have got to know a lot of people who have all helped us to become the service we are today.

“I want to say thank you to everyone we’ve worked with for your support and encouragement. It is important to mention our amazing staff team, who have gone over and above to support young carers and their families. You have been a joy to work with and I know you will continue to champion the needs of young carers.”
