Carers rights

Carers rights

Carers in the UK have the right to a wide range of help, support and assistance. This includes:

  • Money and benefits
  • Grants and discounts
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Caring for someone with a specific condition
  • Young and young adult carers
  • Education
  • Legal issues
  • Work and employment

Carer's Assessments

Carer's Assessments are a vital component in ensuring carers access the support that matters to them.

We recognise that not all carers want or need a full assessment by the local authority, and our approach to supporting social services teams with carer's assessments is to prevent the need for carers to access statutory services. We work to ensure carers have the right support, at the right time, to help them live their lives alongside their caring role.

Where more formal support is needed, we have experience of undertaking carer’s assessments, helping to reduce waiting lists, increase carer wellbeing, and help carers access the support that matters to them.

Feedback directly from carers suggests that telling their story to a social services department is daunting. Being able to talk to a dedicated carers service about their assessment eases anxiety and reduces the risk of a breakdown in the caring role.
